1Data We Collect

We collect the minimum information necessary to provide BiteWise's core services. Here is exactly what we collect and why:

Profile Information

Age, weight, height, gender, and activity level. This is used to calculate your personalised daily calorie and macro targets. Stored locally on your device only.

Meal Photos

Photos you take of meals are sent securely to our AI service for nutritional analysis. Photos are processed in real time and are not retained or stored on our servers after analysis is complete.

Meal Log

Your meal history, nutritional data, and daily logs are stored in a local SQLite database on your device. This data never leaves your phone unless you explicitly export it.

Usage Analytics

We collect anonymous, aggregated crash reports and usage statistics (no personal identifiers) to improve app stability. This data cannot be linked back to you.

2How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to power the BiteWise app. Specifically:

To calculate your personalised daily calorie and macro targets from your profile
To analyse meal photos and return nutritional information to you
To display your meal history and progress on the dashboard
To improve the accuracy and reliability of our AI analysis (using anonymised, aggregated data only)

We do not use your data for advertising, and we will never sell it to third parties.

3Data Storage

BiteWise is designed with an on-device first architecture. Your personal data — including your profile, meal history, and nutritional logs — is stored in an encrypted SQLite database on your iPhone. We do not operate a user database or cloud storage for personal data.

What this means for you:

• Your data is only accessible on your device
• Deleting the app removes all your local data permanently
• If you lose your device, your meal history cannot be recovered from our servers (because we don't have it)
• No one at BiteWise can view your personal health data

4Third-Party Services

BiteWise uses the following third-party services:

AI Meal Analysis API

Meal photos are sent to our AI analysis provider for nutritional identification. Photos are transmitted over HTTPS, processed, and the results are returned to your device. Photos are not stored or retained by the API provider after analysis.

Apple App Store / In-App Purchases

Subscription billing is handled entirely by Apple. We do not store or process your payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs how your payment data is handled.

Crash Reporting

We use an anonymised crash reporting tool to identify and fix app stability issues. No personally identifiable information is included in crash reports.

5Your Rights

You have full control over your data at all times:

Delete your data — Remove all data from the app settings, or simply delete the app
Cancel your subscription — Via the App Store settings at any time
Contact us — Reach out with any privacy questions or requests
